How to elevate your interiors with curtains

Go long - - - if you can, choose floor to ceiling for your curtain length. The easiest way to make your interiors more elevated is with long curtains. If you have coving or similar in the way of installing on the ceiling, wall mount the track or pole as close as you can to the ceiling. Why? This makes your window appear larger and allows your chosen fabric to fall beautifully compared to shorter curtains, or curtains that are installed just above the window frame. Your curtains will almost cover a wall and add a softness that paint or wallpaper can’t offer.

Add pooling - - - adding a few centimetres to the drop measurement of your curtains will allow some fabric to gather on the floor. Add 5cm or over to your drop for a dramatic finish. Why? Pooling is great for sealing in warmth in colder houses and hiding uneven floorboards. It’s a look that is also favoured by interior designers, making it a super easy way to give your interiors a luxe but effortless finish.

Go wide - - - if you have the space, add 10-20cm of width on either side of your window. So if your window is 100cm wide, if space allows, adjust your measurement to be 120-140cm wide instead. Why? This helps to make your windows appear larger compared to narrow curtains, and wider curtains are better for blackout in bedrooms. It also helps to increase the amount of natural light in your space as your curtains can stackback over the wall rather than the window. Pair your wide curtains with a floor to ceiling drop for the most elevated look.
