Designing Your Bay Window Curtains

Bay windows are typically comprised of three or more windows, creating a recessed seating area or additional space in a room. When it comes to choosing curtains for bay windows, there are a few things to consider:

Measuring: Take a look at our easy step-by-step measuring guide on how to measure for curtains on a bay window.

Style: There are several styles of curtains that work well with bay windows, including single panel curtains, angled or curved curtains. Consider the style of your room and the look you want to achieve. Curtain heading choice also plays a huge part in how your bay window curtains look and feel, so have a read of our curtain heading guide to see which option might suit you and your home best.

Fabrics: The level of privacy and light control you want will influence what kind of fabric will work on your bay window. For example a draughty house may require a heavier fabric, where as bay window curtains for privacy will require one of our lighter fabrics. Or if you need both light control and privacy for your bay window, we offer double poles and tracks which allows you to have two layers of curtains - - - one for privacy and one for warmth, blackout or even just to introduce some colour to your space.

Mounting: There are several mounting options for bay window curtains, including traditional curtain poles, ceiling-mounted tracks, double poles and tracks and individual brackets for each section of the bay window. If you choose a double pole, the back fabric will be static on a bay window, whereas if you choose a track both fabrics will move freely.

Accessories: Consider adding accessories such as tiebacks, valances, or drapery wands to enhance the look and functionality of your bay window curtains. Get in touch for more information and a bespoke quote.

Everything You Need to Know About Bay Window Curtains

Our bay window curtains are all made to measure so you can create something that is perfect for you and your home. Here is everything you need to know about our made to measure bay window curtains so you can start designing your dream window apparel:

Curtain lining. Lining is the fabric added to the back of your curtain. We have five different types of lining; lined, blackout lined, interlined, interlined blackout and thermal lined. Alternatively, you can also have your curtain unlined. Read our guide to curtain lining to see which might be the best option for your bay window curtains.

Pooling. Pooling describes the amount of fabric that sits on the floor at the bottom of your bay window curtains. We have three different types of pooling; just touching, normal pooling and generous pooling. To see which style might work for bay windows, check out our guide to curtain pooling.

Curtain headings. The heading style is the way in which the curtain is gathered at the top. It determines how the curtain will hang and has a huge impact on the look and style. Our curtains are available with eight different heading types; pencil pleat, europleat, double pleat, triple pleat, eyelet, wave, goblet and cartridge. Take a look at our heading guide to see how the different styles look and how they hang.

Stackback. Stackback is the amount of fabric your curtains have on either side of your bay window when they are open. The type of heading you choose will impact the amount of stackback you have and it will dictate the length of the curtain pole or track. The longer the pole or track, or the more wall space you have at either side of the window, allows more natural light into your room when the curtains are open as they won’t cover as much of the window.

Measuring. We’ve made measuring bay windows easy! Take a look at our step-by-step guide below on how to measure for your curtains, with or without a pole.

Poles and Tracks. Our poles and tracks are also made to measure. Our bay window poles are available in a number of finishes and widths. Our tracks are metal and available in white, ash and slate. Take a closer look at our Tracks vs Poles guide below.

Installation. We’ve made installing your curtains on a bay window easy too! Take a look at our step-by-step guide on how to install your bay window curtains.
