When did you start Dress Like A Mum and how did it come about?
I started Dress like A Mum while I was on maternity leave with my second child about four years ago. I started it as I wanted to prove to the world that just because you are a mother it doesn’t mean you can’t dress!
We often say that your home is a more permanent expression of your personal style, do you agree?
Yes I do believe this. Our home is colourful and relaxed and has mixture of things from all sorts of places, from high end designers, the high street, second hand stores and small businesses - - - which is exactly the same as how I dress.
What are the three words that describe your style?
Fun, colourful and comfortable!
When decorating, where do you start? With a colour, with a certain piece of furniture or with a theme?
It depends on the room, budgets and what we are trying to achieve. We have recently painted our lounge a dark blue grey and love it - - - it has made the art we have on the walls stand out and our yellow/green sofa look great. We wanted it to be a cosy space in comparison to our bright white kitchen. With the new kids room we wanted it to be fairly neutral so we went for a very pale grey and then added colour with the furniture and toys and dark blue curtains.
If you could give a piece of advice to your followers about being bold with colour, what would it be?
If you like it, go for it! People often ‘play it safe’ and are scared of colour but sometimes you’ll never know until you try.
