I started Dress like A Mum while I was on maternity leave with my second child about 4 years ago. I started it as I wanted to prove to the world that just because you are a mother it doesn't mean you can't dress!
Yes I do believe this. Our home is colourful and relaxed and has mixture of things from all sorts of places - from high end designers, the high street, second hand stores and small businesses - which is exactly the same as how I dress.
It depends on the room, budgets and what we are trying to achieve. We have recently painted our lounge a dark blue grey and love it - it has made the art we have on the walls stand out and our yellow/green sofa look great. We wanted it to be a cosy space in comparison to our bright white kitchen. With the new kids room we wanted it to be fairly neutral so we went for a very pale grey and then added colour with the furniture and toys and dark purple curtains.
If you like it - go for it! People often 'play it safe' and are scared of colour but sometimes you'll never know until you try.
